Networking Scavenger Hunt
Meet other educators and explore all Downtown Sioux Falls has to offer during this networking event! 

Game day is Sunday, July 31, 2016, and check in is at 6:00pm.

Be prepared for a competitive hunt from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

Players will receive paper copies of the List of Clues and a map for reference during orientation at 6:00pm. The List of Clues will include the clue number, the clue itself, and its point value. Phones can be used for research.

Each team will need at least one smartphone with a data plan so they can post their team’s photos to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter for scoring. If you don’t have a social media account, you can text the photo for submission. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter photos used for the scavenger hunt need to be public (viewable by everyone).

This is a car-free photo scavenger hunt. That means getting around with transit and any human-powered form of transportation (i.e. no cars, car-shares, carpools, taxis, bikes, etc.) unless medically necessary.

Learning Data Analytics by Copying and Doing
This past June, SDSU organized the first Data Analytics Camp for high school students at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This free 4-day camp is supported by National Science Foundation through the EPSCoR program. During the camp, students learned basic concepts of probability and statistics as well as how to analyze data using Microsoft Excel and the R programming language.

This session will highlight the activities and online resources developed for the camp that can be used in classrooms and will highlight the importance of data interpretation in many professions and our everyday lives.

Transform Your CTE & Career Development Programs: Ideas for Workforce Education Grants
In 2013, the South Dakota Legislature established the Workforce Education Grant fund which designated $1.5 Million to provide grants for Career & Technical Education (CTE) in secondary schools. These grants provide school districts in South Dakota the opportunity to make transformative change in career and technical education programs.

This session will highlight previous grant award winners and will provide participants with an opportunity to ask questions about future grant applications.

CTE 101
This course is intended for teachers who are new to Career & Technical Education and will provide information on SDMyLife, labor mar¬ket projections, student organizations, industry certifications, and the com¬ponents of a high quality program of study.    

This course meets the requirements for qualification in offering an approved CTE program.

Participants will earn 6 Continuing Education Contact Hours for their participation in the course.This course is not offered for graduate credit but the CECHs can be used towards renewing a current teaching certificate.
