SkillsUSA Career Readiness Curriculum

So what do students need for career readiness? We believe the answer lies in the SkillsUSA framework in which every student has an opportunity to develop personal, workplace and technical skills. This trifecta for student success centers on industry demands and builds the foundation for relevant and intentional student learning and leadership development. The framework gives students exposure to the whole package offered by career and technical education and SkillsUSA. What’s more, the framework provides a pathway to a better life.

SkillsUSA has a new resource that encourages high-school students to mentor younger students on possible career paths. Whether a younger student wants to be an architect or an electrician, a social media specialist or a computer programmer, an industrial designer or an airline pilot, there is information on a possible career for the future. With this groundbreaking new program, SkillsUSA members are bridging the gap between elementary-age students and careers related to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Teaching Students to Solve Career Problems: It's Not a Mystery!
In making career decisions, it’s not enough for students to know what their interests and abilities are, and what their corresponding options are. It’s equally important that they know what to do with that information! Career decision making is a problem solving activity that students can learn. Teaching and coaching strategies for implementing career decision-making in the classroom will be highlighted in this presentation, using the Cognitive Information Processing Career Development Model.

Inquiry Based Learning--Doing it on a Budget
The words "inquiry based learning," "agriscience," and "hands-on labs" all sound good and seem like the right thing to do as an educator...but how do we make them work without getting stressed out? This session is geared to showcase how to prepare for in-depth labs that can be those big learning times and make other educators jealous of your awesomeness as well as highlighting how to make a true learning lesson happen with just 5 minutes of planning and only the equipment/supplies in your classroom. Inquiry based learning has both a mindset as well as the curriculum and plan. Each participant will get resources from Lab-aids as well as a list of quick labs that can be used or modified for the hands-on approach that we are trying for.
